Kerry Logistics expands with IKEA, Hugo Boss contracts and ‘green’ hub

Leading Asian forwarding and logistics group Kerry Logistics has strengthened its presence inthe region through new contracts with IKEA and Hugo Boss and has started the construction of its

Asia logistics hub in Singapore.

As part of the contract with luxury brand Hugo Boss, Kerry Logistics will manage thedistribution of premium fashion and luxury goods in Greater China through its two distributioncentres. The centre in Hong Kong will cover Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong markets and the one inShanghai will serve the mainland China market. Hugo Boss has been a market leader in China sincethe early 1990s and expects double-digit growth as demand soars for luxury brands.

In Thailand, Kerry Logistics signed up the global furniture giant IKEA to provide a variety ofvalue-added services focused on label printing and labelling prior to dispatch to IKEA’s storesacross Asia. As part of the deal, more than 7,500 SKU of goods will be processed for labelling byKerry Logistics. “We are aiming to optimise existing operations for IKEA, which will result inhigher efficiency and cost savings,” said Alex Ng, General Manager, Kerry Logistics (Thailand).

Separately, the company started building a regional logistics hub in Singapore to support localcustomers with a full range of integrated logistics services. Kerry Logistics will also focus itsAsian supply chain management activities at the hub to meet growing demand from clients in SouthEast Asia and Australia. The four-storey facility with a total area of 34,500 sqm is expected to becompleted in the fourth quarter of 2012.

“This regional logistics hub will facilitate a comprehensive range of integrated logisticsservices for our customers in Asia. We are also incorporating ‘green’ features into the design ofthe building in order to reduce waste and save energy,” said Robert Tan, Managing Director, SouthAsia.

The eco-friendly hub will incorporate green features including a design that maximises naturallight and reduces the need for artificial light resulting in estimated energy saving of 30-35%.

The facility will also have a rainwater harvesting system for irrigating the surroundinglandscape and plants, and an air-conditioning system that improves chiller efficiency and utilisesrefrigerants with low ozone depletion properties. The building will comply with LEED (Gold)requirements, Kerry Logistics added.
