DHL goes green in Manhattan

DHL Express has extended its environmental activities in the USA and introduced a new top-speedservice in Japan.

In the USA, the company has now fully deployed its ‘green’ fleet in Manhattan and improvedpaperless customs clearance to reduce the impact of its business on the environment through moreefficient transport, innovative technologies and services that reduce and offset carbonemissions.

On September 30, DHL Express completed deployment of a fully green fleet of pickup and deliveryvehicles in Manhattan. This fleet includes 30 battery-powered electric vans and 50 hybrid trucksand enables DHL to serve customers via sustainable solutions and improved resource efficiency bycutting down fossil fuel use, and in combination, reducing CO2 emissions by more than 50% each yearin comparison to conventional vehicles.

At the same time, a new environmentally-friendly Paperless Clearance feature will enable DHLcustomers to electronically transmit documents to Customs, eliminating the need to print andmanually attach them to shipments. Available from October 31, the new web-based feature will savecustomers shipment preparation time, save millions of sheets of paper each year, reduce waste andboost preservation of natural resources including water, trees and energy.

In Japan, DHL Express has launched a new on-board delivery service ‘DHL SECURELINE’ formission-critical international shipments. Amidst the globalisation of supply chains, DHL SECURELINEcan be used when the need arises to make an emergency international delivery of components, samplesor finished products to meet a pre-defined delivery deadline or to address product faults andrecalls. Combining best possible transport mode to deliver emergency shipments door-to-door, thenew service follows last year’s introduction of DHL JETLINE, which provides pickup both in Japanand abroad and door-to-door delivery by the next available flight.

DHL SECURELINE is a highly secured hand-carry courier service for handling emergencyinternational delivery, which meets the need to achieve time-sensitive schedule for development,manufacturing and repair in a range of industries including automobile parts, ship components,electronic devices, precision machineries, pharmaceuticals and energy development. All availablemeans of transport are combined to pick up and deliver the shipment to destinations over 220countries and territories within the shortest possible timeframe with dedicated on-board couriersunder high security. Customers can track the shipment status in real time on the dedicatedwebsite.
