DHL drives ahead with new Innovation Campus

DHL Solutions & Innovations (DSI) is expanding its site at Troisdorf near Bonn to create newopportunities to research together with its external innovation partners and subsidiaries under one

roof for future innovative solutions.

Located next to the DHL Innovation Centre, the new construction project aims to expand andoptimise the potential of innovation partnerships, the company stressed. A topping-out ceremony forthe new building was held yesterday.

The two buildings of the Innovation Campus will provide space for up to 220 employees. When itcomes into operation next spring, around 80 staff from the DSI and its subsidiary Agheera willstart working there in the first stage, together with around 20 partner employees. Some partnercompanies that already signed up include Motorola Solutions, 7id, infoware, Mojix, Zetes and theFraunhofer-Institut for factory operations and automation (IFF). DSI believes the Campus will growquickly with further sections of the building already planned for the second phase ofconstruction.

In the new facility, DSI will bring together all of its 50 staff currently working both at thePost Tower in Bonn and at the Innovation Centre. For 2012, DHL expects to create 15 new jobs at thecentre. As part of the DHL Innovation Initiative, DSI’s strategic partner programme, furthercompanies have also showed interest in moving in.

“The development of innovations requires cooperation, creative ideas and in order to implementthese innovations there needs to be an interplay between several partners with diverse expertise,”confirmed Steffen Frankenberg, Vice President of DSI. “We are in the enviable position of beingable to work with our partners under one roof and this will facilitate and encourage cooperation.The inspirational working environment makes the Innovation Campus a practical think tank forinnovative logistics extending far beyond Germany.”

Ward Vermoere, Global Account Director at Motorola Solutions, commented: “We were inspired bythe Innovation Campus concept and wanted to be a part of it straightaway. Over the course of thecoming year, we hope to attract developers from around the world, for we are convinced that withDSI and other innovative partners, we will be able to drive logistic change and develop newpractical solutions.”

DHL Solutions & Innovations unit was established in 2009 by Deutsche Post DHL to developinnovative solutions for DHL.
