Standard Chartered Bank

DHL’s GOGREEN Carbon Neutral service has been adopted by the Standard Chartered Bank to ship 95%of its international courier services in a carbon-neutral way.

It is the first bank to deploy DHL’s ‘green’ service on a global level across its internationalnetwork. Through this service, the bank expects to offset about 2,000 tonnes of carbon emissionseach year.

DHL GOGREEN Carbon Neutral offers companies a more eco-friendly shipping option by calculatingcarbon emissions generated through the delivery of each shipment point to point. Emissions areoffset by reinvesting in certified carbon management programmes such as a biomass and a hydro powerplant in India and Brazil and a wind farm in China.

Standard Chartered will introduce the service gradually in China, Germany, Hong Kong, India,Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdomand the USA, with Japan and the Philippines to be added later.

“DHL has a responsibility to address the environmental challenge. We are doing that by creatingsustainable logistics services like the DHL GOGREEN Carbon Neutral service that meet the globalneeds of customers such as Standard Chartered Bank which require innovative solutions that areeffective across all business units globally,” said Jerry Hsu, CEO, DHL Express Asia Pacific. “Energy efficiency is one of the most significant ecological challenges that we face in thetransportation sector and as a group, we are constantly looking at innovative ways to reduce ourcarbon footprint and create sustainable solutions for our customers.”

DHL’s own global sustainability programme aims to improve carbon efficiency by 30% by 2020. In2010, DHL Express Asia Pacific achieved a 14.1% improvement in CO2 efficiency year-on-year in itsreal estate and ground transport operations, despite a 10% increase in total CO2 emissions.
