GLS Austria grows parcel volumes in Eastern Europe through faster delivery times

GLS Austria has considerably increased its parcel volumes for Hungary, Slovakia and the CzechRepublic after reducing the delivery times to these countries by introducing direct deliveries one

year ago.

Since the introduction of direct deliveries, parcels are delivered from the metropolitan area ofVienna to the three European countries in less than 24 hours. GLS Austria stressed that the volumeincrease reflects the positive customer feedback to its improved service.

With faster and reliable connections to Eastern Europe, GLS meets the needs of many shippers.Especially in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, parcel exports have shown a positive developmentwith volumes doubling during the first half year of 2011. Parcel volumes also increased to othercountries including Bulgaria and Poland by up to 50% thanks to better delivery times.

“Many of our customers have sales areas in Eastern Europe,” said Klaus Schädle, ManagingDirector GLS South Europe. “We have adjusted our long-distance traffic according to the demandensuring the products arrive fast and in a reliable way. This is well received – the figures speakfor themselves.”

The delivery time reduction not only applies to the capital cities of Budapest, Bratislava andPrague but covers all of Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The distribution in these andother destination countries is ensured through GLS’ dense national networks.

The direct deliveries from GLS Austria to Eastern Europe are especially beneficial to supplycompanies for different industries that are often under heavy time pressure. Germany remains themost important export destination for Austrian parcel shippers. “But the importance of relationswith Eastern Europe is increasing within the international GLS network,” the company added.
