Poste Italiane advises Panama on postal technology

Poste Italiane has extended its international consulting services with an agreement to advisePanama on postal technology.

Under an agreement signed between Poste Italiane president and CEO Massimo Sarmi and thecountry’s president, the Italian postal operator will become Panama Post’s ‘technologyconsultant’.

Poste Italiane said it will analyse the needs of Panama Post and how to introduce innovativeservices and add value to the latter’s technological status. In particular, it will work on adevelopment plan for advanced services in the field of financial services, telecommunications anddigital communications.

The main objectives are to modernise the country’s network of post offices and to set upfinancial services in line with the BancoPosta model in Italy. In the longer term, mobile phoneservices could be offered.

“This consolidates our international reputation and our expertise in the field of postallogistics and communications,” said Sarmi. “It is a further challenge that Poste Italiane willapproach with plenty of enthusiasm in order to contribute to the modernisation of the country’spostal logistics infrastructure with the aim of introducing financial and payment services and alsodigital communications.”

The deal reinforces Poste Italiane’s international consulting activities in the Americasfollowing an agreement signed two years ago with Correo Argentino and follows other agreements withRussian Post and Egyptian Post.
