DPD has opened its 15th location in Austria with a new depot in the southern region of Carinthia.
The new depot at Sachsenburg, north of Villach and just off the E55 motorway from Salzburg toSlovenia, will cope with rising volumes in the region and improves the parcel operator’s coverageof Upper Carinthia and eastern Tyrol.
Operated by DPD Austria shareholder Lagermax Paketdienst, the depot, which opened in June, isthe second location in Carinthia alongside St. Veit an der Glan. DPD Austria said it plans tohandle about 540,000 parcels at the site this year.
“With the opening of a further depot we are able to deliver our parcels more rapidly,” saidRainer Schwarz, managing director of DPD Austria. Until now parcels for the region were sorted atSt. Veit an der Glan, east of Klagenfurt.
DPD now has 14 depots in Austria along with the main national hub at Linz/Hörsching. Thecompany, which sees itself as the country’s largest private parcel service, has about 1,500employees and 900 vehicles and delivered 37.5 million parcels last year.
