Night express specialist TNT Innight has opened a new depot in Glinde, northern Germany, as part ofthe company’s growth strategy.
With a terminal area of 4,500 sqm and 1,000 sqm office space, the new facility is equippedwith state-of-the-art WLAN-technology, with 125 gates to help optimise processes to ensure asmoother and faster shipment handling. The core of the terminal is a 167-metre-long conveyorsystem.
The construction of the building took five months and the facility started operating at theend of July, as scheduled, TNT said.
Philip Alliet, Chairman of the Board at TNT Innight Management Europe, said: “The location inGlinde is an important element of our growth strategy and the first component in our investmentprogramme, which includes optimising our infrastructure. In the next three years, we will invest adouble-digit million amount in the fields of ICS and infrastructure.”
Robin Dorrie, branch manager of the new site, said: “The new depot is one of the most modernfacilities in the industry. Glinde is our new hub to Scandinavia. From here, we will serve ourcustomers in Hamburg, Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, and Schleswig-Holstein.”
TNT said the new facility is also innovative in environmental terms. For example, the officearea will be supplied with geothermal energy via a floor heating. Moreover, various measures havebeen implemented to reduce energy and water consumption, as well as minimise waste. In theterminal, gate seals prevent heat losses, thus contributing to lower energy costs and less CO2emissions, while dome lights ensure efficient use of daylight. TNT said the new facility was animportant part of the company’s certification according to the environmental management norm DIN ENISO 14001:2005, planned for 2011.
TNT Innight employs about 950 staff in Germany and has a nationwide distribution network of23 branches. With a fleet of 1,600 vehicles, TNT Innight delivered 14.21 million shipments in 2010.The European network of TNT Innight group comprises Germany, Austria, Benelux, Denmark, Slovakia,Hungary and Czech Republic.
