DHL Supply Chain has extended its strategic partnership with BMW to deliver automotive componentsand spare parts in Scotland and northern England.
As part of the three-year contract, DHL’s contract logistics unit will provide warehousingservices at its location in Bellshill, Scotland, and also operate the distribution centres for theappointed dealers in the urban areas of Scotland and northern England.
From now on, dealers can orders their spare parts several times a day to receive them via theso-called Dealer Metro Distribution Centres (DMDC) within 2-3 hours after ordering.
The agreement will see 18 BMW dealers in Scotland and northern England connected with DHL’snetwork for regular spare parts deliveries during the night and up to three times a day, allowingthe companies to process repair orders considerably faster, often on the same day, thus reducingwaiting times for customers.
Previously, deliveries were effected only once every 24 hours, during the night. The newconcept also reduces dealership inventory levels and increases the number of BMWs that can berepaired with just a single visit, DHL explained.
BMW said that the proximity of the DHL location to the dealers in Scotland was an importantcriterion in the decision process. In addition, the new service was based on a thorough analysis ofthe BMW business model and a Europe-wide strategic cooperation with DHL. “The DHL team alsodemonstrated its track record for reliability within the UK and abroad,” BMW added.
Paul Dyer, Managing Director for DHL Supply Chain Automotive, said: “DHL’s proven strengthsin the automotive sector and the ability to implement flexible, efficient solutions continue to beattributes, which our customers value us for. We’re delighted to have been chosen as a partner toBMW and we look forward to helping enhance its customer service strategy.”
