DHL Global Forwarding has launched a new online service for monitoring the CO2 emissions ofshipments to give customers an overview about the main sources of their emissions along their
entire supply chain. The so-called GOGREEN Carbon Dashboard provides customers with a variety of certified reportsinvolving various transport modes which include pickup and delivery so they can better understandwhere their CO2 emissions come from. Third party carbon emissions that are part of the supply chainare also included in the calculation, thus simplifying the CO2 management.
“Up to 50% of the carbon footprint of a product comes from the supply chain. DHL GlobalForwarding now offers its customers a best-in-class tool to gain transparency on the carbonefficiency within their supply chain. In the future, carbon will become a global currency and DHLmakes it easy for companies to integrate it in their balance sheet. The new Carbon Dashboard helpsour customers identify their impact in detail, so that together we can find ‘greener’ solutionswherever possible,” said Kathrin Brost, Vice President, DHL Global Forwarding, Freight, GreenStrategy.
The Carbon Dashboard operates with a standardised calculation treating CO2 emissions as anintegrated business parameter. Thereby, it is put it into relation with other supply chainparameters such as volumes shipped, product density and trade lane efficiency. The new service alsoenables to run various carbon reduction scenarios using real data and test the effectiveness ofdifferent optimisation measures.
Deutsche Post DHL offers a full range of GOGREEN products and services for its customers acrossall its business units – from carbon reporting and consulting to CO2 reduction options and carbonoffsetting. In 2010 alone, the company offset some 82,000 tonnes of carbon emissions for itscustomers and shipped over 1.7 billion CO2-neutral GOGREEN items.
