Russian Post is investing RUB 14 billion (€351 million) from its own funds in the modernisationof its postal system this year, with the main goal to reduce delivery times. This almost doubles
last year’s investment of RUB 8 billion (€200 million).Russian Post Deputy Director Igor Mandrykin stressed that these funds are not related in any wayto the modernisation of Russian Post and the financial resources that the Russian government plansto allocate for that purpose. The money will either be raised through loans or invested by RussianPost itself, he added.
From the total investment, RUB 3.4 billion (€85.22 million) will be spent on the construction ofnew automated sorting centres and RUB 3.3 billion (€82.71 million) on purchasing new equipment.These centres eliminate an intermediate sorting process on the way from the shipper to therecipient, thus speeding up the delivery process, the operator added.
Another RUB 2.5 billion (€62.66 million) will be invested in the modernisation of technologicaland IT-communication infrastructure, which will provide internet access at post offices. This willexpand the range of services at post offices and reduce the time needed to process information.
The modernisation of the transport and logistics infrastructure is expected to cost RUB 2billion (€50 million). The remaining RUB 2.8 billion (€70 million) will be invested in thereconstruction of post offices, Russian Post explained.
