Korea Post and Pos Malaysia have signed a memorandum of understanding to improve postal services,with the focus on express mail, e-commerce and information technologies, according to international
media reports.As part of the strategic cooperation, the two postal operators aim to grow international mailvolumes through joint marketing initiatives, modernise postal infrastructure and develop new postaland financial services. This will include the promotion and service improvement of Expedited MailServices (EMS) and e-commerce between both postal organisations.
Datuk Syed Faisal Albar, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Pos Malaysia, saidthe Malaysian postal operator wants to profit from Korea Post’s expertise in the field ofinformation technology. However, discussions are still going on about how much Pos Malaysia willneed to pay for the expertise, according to Malaysian media reports.
Further negotiations on a more concrete bilateral agreement are expected to come at theAsian-Pacific Postal Union executive council meeting in Mongolia later this month.
Albar added that Pos Malaysia expected a better year-on-year financial performance for thesecond quarter of 2011, thanks to its ‘transformation programme initiatives‘
He explained that the transformation programme, which was implemented last year, helped thecompany exceed RM1 billion (€234 million) for 2010. He added that the first quarter of 2011 was arecord breaking quarter with Pos Malaysia, generating an operational profit of RM51 million (€12million).
