UPS Freight to hike rates 6.9% from August 1

UPS Freight today announced a general rate increase averaging 6.9% for non-contractual shipmentsin the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The rate adjustment takes effect on August 1, 2011, and applies to minimum charge, LTL rates andaccessorial charges, the fourth-largest LTL carrier in the USA said.

The impact may vary based on specific lanes or shipment characteristics, such as weight orclass, it noted. On Aug. 1, customers will be able to view and download the new rates atltl.upsfreight.com.

In 2010, UPS Freight increased volumes slightly to 9.9 million shipments and increased revenuesby 14% to $2.2 billion thanks to higher prices and fuel surcharges, according to the company’sannual report. The business improved its operating profit thanks to these increases and betterproductivity.
