DPD is broadening its B2C business in Germany with the takeover of iloxx, an online parcel shippingbroker.
The acquisition, for an undisclosed price, will enable DPD, which generates the bulk of itsrevenues from B2B parcel shipments, to expand in the fast-growing B2C sector.

We expect continued growth in online and mail ordershipping, and with iloxx AG we will have access to further growth areas in the B2C segment whichwill enable us to widen our business base.”
In 2010, iloxx AG increased revenues by 15 per cent to a record €29.4 million. About 75 percent of these sales were from its B2C operations. The company has about 700,000 private and 70,000business customers. In the field of parcel shipping and freight forwarding more than 4 millionshipments were transported in 2010. DPD will take over delivery of all iloxx AG parcel volumes infuture.
Via a shipping portal which it has developed itself, the Nuremberg-based company offers awide range of shipping services, from the delivery of standard parcels right across to thespecialised shipping of sensitive and bulky goods. All shipping services can be accessed simply andcost-effectively on the company’s own internet portal in the form of a one-stop shop solution.Iloxx then consolidates customer volumes in order to gain preferential prices from deliverycompanies.
The company, which was founded by managers Volker Hofmann and Matthias Emmel in 1999, has aworkforce of 118 employees. The two managers will continue to run the company in future. Hofmanncommented: “We welcome DPD’s decision and are pleased to be able to guarantee the employment of allour personnel.”
iloxx AG has already won a number of awards, including ‘Bavarias Best 50’ and ‘Europe’s 500Job Creating Companies’. Volker Hofmann and Matthias Emmel have repeatedly reached the finals ofthe ‘Entrepreneurs of the Year’ contest, and last year the company was awarded the title of‘Germany’s Customer Champions 2010 and 2011’. In 2010 iloxx also was for the first time a finalistin the ‘Medium-sized Company Grand Prix’ organised by the Oskar Patzelt foundation.
DPD ships about two million parcels daily in Europe through its network of over 800 locationsin more than 40 countries, with a workforce of 24,000 people and 18,000 vehicles. In Germany, theGeoPost subsidiary has 75 depots, a workforce of 7,500 and 7,000 vehicles in daily operation.
