Deutsche Post DHL scores ‘green goal’ with FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011 ticket deliveries

Deutsche Post DHL has kicked off environmentally-friendly dispatch and delivery of more than100,000 tickets for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011 in Germany which starts in four days’ time.



Over 100,000 ticket buyers in Germany and abroad will be receiving their tickets by mailusing Deutsche Post’s environmentally friendly GOGREEN service. The company is the official mailpartner of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011, which runs from June 26 to July 17.

The carbon emissions resulting from these shipments will be calculated and offset throughacknowledged climate protection projects, with Deutsche Post assuming the costs to offset the CO2emissions.

“The Women’s World Cup is going to be an exciting event and I’m happy that we’ll have theopportunity to employ our GOGREEN service to make this event more environmentally-friendly,” saidRainer Wend, Head of Corporate Public Policy and Responsibility at Deutsche Post DHL.

Steffi Jones, President of the Organizing Committee of the World Cup, added: “We have alreadysold more than 680,000 tickets, which, of course, need to be sent out to the fans. Mailing thetickets has an impact on the environment, and we try to reduce that impact as much as possiblethrough these types of projects and partnerships. It puts us on the path toward making the WorldCup a major sporting event that is environmentally friendly.”

FIFA’s project “Green Goal” is aimed at making the Women’s World Cup 2011 as environmentallyfriendly as possible. Beyond the environmentally friendly GOGREEN service, FIFA is also tappinginto renewable energies, using reusable cups and serving organic foods.

Deutsche Post said it is an active sponsor of national-level soccer in Germany. Since 2009the company has partnered with the DFB (German Soccer Association), becoming an official premiumpartner of the German women’s national soccer team and top partner for the men’s DFB Cup. Thecompany is also a “National Sponsor” of the FIFA Women’s World Cup this year.
