FedEx Express builds new express hub at Singapore’s Changi Airport

FedEx Express has started the construction of a new regional hub at Singapore’s Changi Airportto strengthen its position at the south-east Asian business hub and develop Singapore’s position as

a key centre for air express companies.

The Air Cargo Express (ACE) hub will be the company’s second largest facility in the AsiaPacific region after the Asia Pacific hub located in Guangzhou, southern China, FedEx stressed.

Scheduled for completion in the second half of 2012, the FedEx Singapore Regional Hub isstrategically located within Changi Airport’s free trade zone and beside the Airport Logistics Parkof Singapore.

The 26,264 sqm facility will integrate delivery, pick-up and air operations under one roof. Itwill boast a five-belt sort system with capacity to sort up to 9,000 packages per hour and houseover 250 delivery vans. It will also include airside infrastructure such as two new aircraftparking bays as well as a special on-site facilitation by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authorityand Singapore Customs for efficient cargo clearance.

David L. Cunningham Jr., president, Asia Pacific, FedEx Express, commented: “The GDP of theASEAN-5 economies is projected to expand by 5.5% and 5.75% in 2011 and 2012 respectively. FedEx hasalready established a significant presence in Southeast Asia. With this new regional hub inSingapore, we will further enhance our ability to offer customers unparalleled connectivity andenhanced services.”

The facility will complement the operations at the FedEx Asia Pacific hub, which remains thecentre point of the FedEx AsiaOne(R) network connecting the region.

Changi Airport already announced plans in January to open a new ACE hub by mid-2012 to targetthe international express industry with improved facilities to cover markets in the region. The hubuser was not disclosed at the time.
