TNT Express has invested €1 million in the modernisation of its hub at Rome’s Ciampino airportready for continued growth in central and southern Italy.
The company has upgraded the 1,800 sqm facility, which has 16 loading and unloading doors,installed new sorting equipment and added advanced security systems, including X-ray machines fortransit cargo.
TNT Express Italy said that the investment is designed to increase capacity after it generateddouble-digit growth last year. The Ciampino facility acts as the company’s air hub for central andsouthern Italy and is one of five TNT air hubs across Italy, along with Linate (Milan), Bologna,Cagliari (Sardinia) and Catania (Sicily).
“This is a strategic investment for what is our main international air hub for central andsouthern Italy,” said Rosario Ambrosino, head of TNT Express Italy. “We want Rome to become anincreasingly strategic hub in our network. The growing demand from these areas for import andexport services to destinations such as China requires the provision of facilities capable ofserving the needs of companies.”
He added: “The transport of goods for international markets and for global supply chainsrequires the use of air transport. With this investment we are exceeding the already high standardsin this industry so that we can provide our customers a faster, safer and more effectiveservice.”
