DPD Germany has started the construction of a new €9 million parcel hub at Trier inRhineland-Palatinate, central Germany, to cope with continuously rising volumes while creating new
jobs.In autumn this year, the company will move from the current location in the neighbouringmunicipality of Sehlem to the new site at Föhren as no more expansion was possible in Sehlem whereDPD established itself in 1985.
Thanks to the modern technology in Föhren, DPD’s hub will be able to sort up to 7,500 packagesper hour more than doubling the capacity of the existing site which sorted only 3,000 parcels perhour. With a total area of 27,600 sqm, the site covers 16,000 sqm and a hall of 4,500 with around150 staff to be employed at the facility. The company will operate a fleet of 60 delivery vehiclesthere.
Armin Margardt, Regional Managing Director of DPD, said: “This investment is understood as DPD’slong-term commitment to the region. With the new construction, we are considerably expanding ourcapacities and are thus well prepared to handle increased parcel volumes. At the same time, we aresafeguarding local jobs.”
In addition to the metropolitan area of Trier, the depot will serve the overall region fromStadtkyll in the north via Wittlich to Idar-Oberstein and Baumholder in the south-east. In thesouth and west, the depot area is limited by the borders of Saarland, Luxembourg and Belgium.
DPD Germany employs a total of 7,500 staff at 75 depots with 7,000 delivery vehicles and 4,000parcel shops.
