Nightline, Ireland’s biggest independent delivery company, looks set to increase its share ofparcel traffic from the UK following a partnership deal with Global Freight Solutions (GFS).

The agreement sees Nightline join a portfolio of major couriers offered to clients of GFS,which describes itself as Britain’s leading parcel and carrier manager. It opens up the potentialof Nightline moving some of the millions of parcels GFS handles on behalf of clients each year.

GFS was the first UK firm to offer customers the chance to move goods via a number ofdifferent couriers when it devised its GFS Selector software in 2001. The company works with mostof the UK’s major carriers, managing the shipment of many millions of parcels each year on behalfof clients in the financial services, technology, baby products, leisure and automotive industries.

Geremy Ruffin, Nightline’s UK Managing Director, said the move was another significant andstrategic step in the Irish firm’s evolution. “In order to grow our business and generate a biggerproportion of parcel traffic being shipped from the UK to Ireland, we know that we need tocapitalise on the momentum of firms like GFS which are undoubted experts in their field,” he said.

“However, this is very much a partnership. We believe that we can offer GFS’s customers thesort of service levels which are one of our key characteristics.” Ruffin heads Nightline’s UKoffice in Lancashire, which became the company’s eighth depot when it opened in May last year, adding to the seven wholly-owned locations throughout Ireland.

The initiative has already led to the company securing several major new contracts withBritish retailers and the likes of Findel Education, the UK’s biggest supplier of educationalmaterials. Nightline is now responsible for moving one in every five parcels on Irish roads.

GFS managing director Neil Cotty said the addition of Nightline would enhance two of GFS’skey propositions to customers: choice and quality of service. “We’re delighted to have Nightlineaboard because it means those of our clients shipping to Ireland can take advantage of that firm’sundoubted strengths – its nationwide coverage, reliability and speed. That’s something which wefeel represents a strong benefit to customers.”
