TNT Express has expanded its fleet of eco-friendly vehicles in the UK and China as part of itsenvironmental commitment.
In the UK, the company has ordered another five fuel-saving Cheetah Fastbacks trailers fromCartwright Group, in addition to the two existing ones bought in 2010.
Tests by TNT Express over the recent months showed that the aerodynamic design of the Fastbackshelps cut fuel costs by up to 12%. The new trailers will mainly be used between Arnhem, site of itsEuropean road hub in the Netherlands, and Switzerland as well as on the Vienna-Milan-Northamptonroute.
Cartwright Group is a British privately-owned family-run commercial vehicle bodybuilder andtrailer manufacturer based in Altrincham, Cheshire, North West England.
In China, TNT Express has added four electric vehicles to its fleet in Hangzhou, the capital andlargest city of Zhejiang Province in Eastern China.
The vans were designed and manufactured locally by Zotye Auto. They are equipped with a quickcharge technology that allows the electric battery to be refilled in less than two hours. Each vancan run up to 120 km on a full charge and has a maximum load of 300 kg.
China plans to put more than a million electric vehicles onto the road each year, TNT said.Hangzhou is one of the 25 Chinese cities chosen to pilot energy-saving vehicles.
In September 2010, TNT Express already added five electric vehicles to its Shanghai fleet.
