FedEx Ground, the US integrator’s small-package ground delivery unit, plans to expand itsoperations in Indiana, with a new $5 million distribution centre to be constructed in the city of
Kokomo.The project is expected to create more than twelve new jobs and retain the current workforce ofmore than 20 people in Kokomo. The proposed site for the 5,800 sqm facility is located in theHaynes High-Tech Industrial Park on the north side of Kokomo.
Jim Primm, central region vice president for FedEx Ground, stressed that the expansion in Kokomowas part of a nationwide effort to boost daily package volume and further enhance the speed andservice capabilities of the FedEx Ground network. “Kokomo’s convenient access to major highways,workforce availability and proximity to current customers and employees means that FedEx Groundwill be able to better serve its customers in this region,” he said.
Greg Goodnight, Kokomo’s Mayor, commented: “We are very pleased that FedEx will be expandinghere in Kokomo. With this investment, FedEx is showing confidence in our community, viewing it as astrong place to expand and invest.”
Debra Cook, director of development for the City of Kokomo, added: “This project is the resultof months of work. It demonstrates the City’s continued focus on helping businesses retain jobs andcreate new ones, to make this a better place for all of our residents.”
