GLS Belgium has installed a new video surveillance system ‘Uni-Video’ at all its sites acrossthe country with permanent shipment tracking increasing security and transparency of handling
parcels and freight.GLS has a total of 680 cameras spread over 11 branches and 3 GLS hubs across Belgium. Frompick-up to handling at the depot prior to delivery, all parcel scans are collected. Graduallyintroduced since 2008, Uni-Video links scanned information to the images.
Luc De Schrijver, General Manager Belgium & GLS GLS Belgium Distribution, commented: „Thisway, we are able to visualise the schedule determining the overall distance covered by a parcelthrough our warehouses with the parcel number.” The Belgian GLS subsidiary has invested nearly€350,000 into this system.
Seamless video surveillance has been part of GLS security standards for a long time. Developpedin 2008 by GLS France, Uni-Video represents a major step forward thanks to the data linking. “Thisis the way to reveal faster production defects, to document the exact path taken by each shipmentand optimise our working process including protection against burglary,” he added.
