Deutsche Post signs up eBay for its electronic letter product

Deutsche Post has teamed up with the global market place eBay to integrate its electronic letter‘E-Postbrief’ as a verification tool in eBay’s processes.

The post and logistics group announced its strategic development partnership with eBay toincrease innovation and security in e-commerce at CeBIT, the global trade fair for IT andtelecommunications solutions taking place this week in Hanover.

Jürgen Gerdes, head of Deutsche Post’s mail and parcel business, commented: “The E-Postbrief haswhat businesses and consumers currently need the most. Anyone who wants to make money in future viathe internet cannot ignore customers’ demands for more security.”

Deutsche Post said it wants to develop new innovative ways for identity verification, incooperation with eBay. Stephan Zoll, managing director of eBay in Germany, said: “The identityverification of eBay members has always been a central part of our security measures. Through thestrategic development partnership with Deutsche Post, we want to benefit the security of our marketplace.”

In addition to the eBay partnership, Deutsche Post announced that the European consumerelectronics provider Medion would become a new E-Postbrief user. In the first stage, Medion willonly send important employee documents via E-Postbrief. On the basis of this experience, thecompany wants to include customer communications in the next step, where the issue ofidentification verification is very important. For example, Medion customers could in futureidentify themselves via E-Postbrief quickly and easily when ordering from the online shop.

Another cooperation partner of Deutsche Post will be the Berlin-based My Hammer, a German portalfor craftsmen, with 1.7 million registered users, and where clear identification and reliabilityalso play a key role.
