TNT Express Russia has acquired its first gas vehicle, a Volkswagen Caddy Kasten 2.0 EcoFuelrunning on methane as part of the company’s corporate strategy to reduce harmful emissions into the
atmosphere. The Caddy EcoFuel is the first gas vehicle used for express delivery in Russia to operate onroutes in the central district of Moscow.
One of the priorities of TNT Express is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 45% by 2020.Despite the lack of gas refuelling stations in Moscow which creates certain operationaldifficulties, TNT plans to expand its fleet of ecological vehicles running on methane acrossRussia. Two more vehicles including a second VW Caddy and a Mercedes Sprinter will be purchased inthe near future, TNT Russia said.
The VW Caddy EcoFuel consumes little fuel and moves freely through the narrow streets in centralMoscow. It is simple to refuel and doesn’t require any special skills. Unfortunately, the vehiclecan not operate in all areas of the city due to a limited number of gas refuelling stations.
Harro van Graafeiland, Managing Director TNT Express Russia, said: “We are very pleased to addthe first natural gas vehicle to our fleet. We are deeply interested in developing the expressdelivery sector in the Russian regions while still keeping the environment in mind trying topurchase cars with a minimum amount of harmful emissions. The Caddy EcoFuel fully meets ourrequirements.”
