FedEx seals takeover of India’s AFL

FedEx expands presence in India

Fedex Express has stepped up its ongoing expansion in India by completing the acquisition of thelogistics, distribution and express businesses of AFL Pvt. Ltd. (AFL) and its affiliate, Unifreight

India Pvt. Ltd. (UFL).

The acquisition further enhances FedEx Express international and India business offerings andcontinues a long-term commitment by FedEx to the growing Indian market, the company announcedtoday.

Under the deal, FedEx Express has taken over AFL Logistics and Distribution, which offers supplychain management, warehousing, and a ground distribution network that provides day-definite groundtransportation for small packages and heavyweight shipments through more than 200 daily scheduledroutes; and AFL WiZ Express, which offers domestic express transportation servicesthrough more than 150 Express Service Centers, servicing more than 5,000 zip codes across 144cities with over 1,000 couriers in India.

“The addition of the AFL and UFL businesses to the FedEx Express network will provide customerswith more comprehensive international and India domestic service options, such as air express,domestic ground, and value added-services, including warehousing, logistics solutions and 3PL,”said Michael L. The growth of the Indian market isconsiderable and offers tremendous opportunity for all our customers wishing to explore new marketsand open up additional revenue streams for their business.”

Cyrus Guzder, Executive Advisor to FedEx Express, India, and former AFL owner, commented: “Withthis transaction, FedEx Express will now provide all international services for AFL and UFLcustomers, who will have direct access to the FedEx international air and ground network in morethan 220 countries and territories worldwide, enhancing their business flexibility and speed tomarket.”

FedEx said the competed acquisition of the logistics, distribution and express businesses of AFLPvt. Ltd. and its affiliate, Unifreight India Pvt. Ltd., would build upon an extensive andcompetitive FedEx network throughout India.

This includes 31 international flights in India, 15 to Delhi, 11 to Mumbai and 5 to Bengalaru,which Fedex said is the most flights offered today by any express service provider in India. Withthese flights FedEx Express has eastbound and westbound capabilities into and out of India,offering unrivalled connectivity to Asia Pacific, Europe and the Americas.

Fedex Express operates three gateways into and out of India, located in Mumbai, Delhi andBengaluru, has 12 clearance locations from Indian cities and offers 100 per cent coverage of thekey import/export markets across India with late pick-up times allowing additional manufacturingand production time.
