TNT Express recorded strong growth in the Czech Republic last year with a 15% increase in profitand shipping volumes rising 27% to 1.4 million.

Milos Malanik, the company’s managing director in the country, said: “2010 was the mostsuccessful year in the history of TNT Express in the Czech Republic.”

In 2010, revenues grew in air transportation above all, and overall turnover increased 27%compared to 2009. Road transportation grew 23% year-on-year.

“2009 was a classic crisis year. There was a decrease in demand with sales stagnating. But dueto strict cost control, we increased profits. In 2010, a recovery was reached leading then tohigher growth in turnover and profits,” Malanik explained.

Due to the crisis, TNT Czech Republic controlled its costs very carefully often changingsuppliers because of price. Particularly in the logistics industry, the crisis led to strong pricepressure. However, TNT Express offers several types of transportation including a flexiblecombination of multiple services.

“Therefore we were able to satisfy our customers during the crisis. With a wide range ofservices, we have gained even more customers, and there was also a significant increase inshipments. The economic crisis thus ironically turned out as a good opportunity for us,” Malanikadded.

Overall, the transport sector started to grow again in Czech Republic in 2010, mainly thanks tothe automotive industry and electrical manufacturing. Imports from China also grew significantlylast year, TNT Express Czech Republic reported.

Petr Zajíc, sales & marketing manager, said: “Above all, the recovery of German economy wasimportant which helped to a great extent with transport.”
