DHL USA takes on 140 more workers at regional facility

DHL USA has further expanded its operations at its freight forwarding facility in LexingtonCounty, South Carolina, by hiring 140 new workers at the site, US media reported.

Since the opening of the Lexington processing facility last year, DHL’s Global Forwardingdivision has already hired 379 workers there.

The facility handles nearly all of the company’s customs documentation for international air andocean freight, DHL’s spokeswoman Jennifer Pakradooni told newspapers. “The company is looking forworkers with highly specialised experience in customs.”

The processing centre handles nearly all of the paperwork from manifests to generating invoicesfor packages that weigh more than 100 pounds, she added. It deals primarily with largeorganisations and small import-export businesses that ship to more than 70 branch locations inmajor cities throughout the United States.

In late 2009, the company announced that it would establish a facility in Lexington County. Atthat time, officials said that around 200 workers would be hired initially.

The latest hiring wave would bring the number of workers at the facility to more than 500.Pakradooni said more hiring is possible in the future. “There are always opportunities to growit.”

She added that DHL chose Lexington from several sites throughout the country because of itsproximity to Charlotte and Atlanta, and the numerous colleges and universities in the area thatgraduate skilled workers.
