DPD in Russia

DPD Russia has launched a new ground delivery route to Kazakhstan, enabling Russia to access thesupply market of Kazakhstan – its largest trading partner.

The new regular route between Yekaterinburg, a major city in central Russia, and Astana, thecapital and second largest city of Kazakhstan after Almaty, is unprecedented on the logisticsmarket, DPD Russia said. Thanks to the introduction of new customs regulations, it DPD said it hadbecome easier to do business between Russia and Kazakhstan, with a simplified system of customsclearance and improved delivery transit times. It said the new Customs Union meant DPD had beenable to join two of its largest ground delivery networks, with Kazakhstan becoming an increasinglypopular destination for DPD Russia’s customers.

“Now, the majority of shippers representing various business segments can profit from highquality transportation of parcels and freight through a single DPD network between the cities ofthe Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan,” the company said.

Since the launch of the new service, DPD has transported over 40 tonnes of parcels and freightand also increased the number of its regular line hauls. However, the largest shipment volumes comenot from Moscow and St. Petersburg but from the regions, especially the Ural and Siberia, withfreight weighing more than 1,000 kg regularly shipped. DPD said the transport of such shipmentsused to be too costly in the past, forcing shippers to use air transport. But with a single DPDnetwork, ground transport between CIS countries had now become more affordable and profitable forcustomers, the company claimed.

Sergey Kruglov, CEO for DPD Russia and CIS countries, commented: “For us, the creation of asingle delivery network between Russia and Kazakhstan is a huge event, which will allow allcompanies interested in international cooperation to activate their business in this promisingarea. DPD has now been given the opportunity to make a contribution towards the development oftrade activity between the Russian Federation and Kazakhstan. We are confident that this will havea favourable effect, both on the economies of each country, as well as on the business of ourcustomers and partners.”
