Hongkong Post extends cross-border direct mail service

Hongkong Post

Hongkong Post is extending its cross-border direct mail service beyond Guangdong province, tocover nine other major cities in mainland China: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Hangzhou,

Chongqing, Chengdu, Dalian and Harbin.

The postal operator launched a cross-border direct mail service in January 2008, incollaboration with China Post, initially covering Shenzhen, and then extending coverage to Dongguanin January 2009, primarily to help enable Hong Kong-based businesses market their products tocustomers in mainland China.

Hongkong Post said the development of closer economic and business ties between Hong Kong andthe mainland, and the relaxation of certain visa restrictions, meant there was a growing desireamong Hong Kong businesses to reach out to mainland consumers, especially in industries liketourism, leisure, entertainment and retail. It said these nine fast-growing cities had beenselected because they enjoy rapidly rising consumer affluence.

“Hong Kong enterprises can now use Hongkong Post’s enhanced direct mail service to tap into thisgrowing spending power, especially in areas such as tourism, leisure, entertainment and shopping,”the company said. “A particularly valuable feature of the direct mail service is its ‘one stop’character, with Hongkong Post handling everything from selection and rental of mailing lists, toprinting, delivery, and reporting. The simplicity of the service means it is ideal for encouragingrepeat purchases by mainland customers.”

To reflect the changes, the enhanced service has been renamed. Previously called the ‘HongKong-Guangdong Direct Mail Service’, it will now be known as the ‘China-Hong Kong Direct MailService’.
