DPD Germany expects record volumes this year after profiting strongly from the country’seconomic recovery.
The B2B parcel operator said it now forecasts a rise of nearly 8% in its overall volumes in2010, making it the best year’s in its history both for domestic and international shipping. It didnot disclose precise figures for volumes or expected revenues.
“Business trends have improved steadily this year and are rising significantly again withChristmas business,” explained CEO Arnold Schroven. “The growth driver is the retail sector. Justamong our customers in the clothes and consumer electronics sectors the volume increases in recentweeks have been up to 75%,” he disclosed. “The figures speak for a record Christmas season tocomplete a strong year. This will mean that we even exceed our optimistic forecasts.”
Looking ahead, DPD said that it expects to grow more strongly than the market in 2011 and theyears thereafter. The company recently announced a price increase of 4.5% in Germany in the firstquarter of next year along with plans to invest €80 million in its network in the country.
“We want to strengthen our domestic and international market position and will invest moreheavily in the expansion of our network structures,” Schroven said. The company, which is theleading B2B parcel operator, plans to build or expand eight depots and consolidation centres nextyear.
DPD’s German network currently consists of 800 depots, 52 hubs and 29 consolidation centres aswell as 4,000 parcel shops.
