DHL Express has appointed Stephen Fenwick as its CEO for the Americas region, effective 1January.
Fenwick currently serves as a member of DHL’s Asia Pacific, Eastern Europe and Middle East(APEM) Express Management Board and oversees network operations in the 131 countries andterritories in the APEM regions. He replaces Roger Crook, who will assume the position of CEO forDHL Express’ APEM region from 1 January. Crook has served as a member of DHL Express’ GlobalManagement Board since 2007 and will continue to lead DHL Express’ Global Sales and E-commerceteams.
The move completes a restructure that began last year, when the company decided to streamlineits organisation by reducing from five to three geographical regions and halve its globalmanagement board to six members.
Under the new structure, DHL Express has been re-organised geographically into three operatingareas – Asia Pacific and EEMEA, Europe, and the Americas, with corresponding structural changeswithin operating functions at a regional and global level. The moves were initiated as part ofplans by DHL Express to achieve cost savings in response to the dramatic downturn in the expressmarket last year as a result of the worldwide economic slowdown.
The company announced in September that John Pearson would take over responsibility as CEO forDHL Express’s Europe region, a position previously held on an interim basis by Ken Allen, globalCEO. Pearson has been CEO of DHL Express’s APEM region since last year.
In his new position, Fenwick will be responsible for the management of DHL Express businessactivities in 50 countries and territories in the Americas region, which includes the UnitedStates, Canada, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and South America.
Fenwick began his career with DHL in the Middle East but later held positions in the US, Europeand Asia. During his three decades at the company, his responsibilities have included aviationground operations, import/export, customs and security related activities plus airport facilitiesplanning and investments. He played a lead role in the development of DHL’s Central Asia Hub and inachieving profitable growth of DHL Express’ business in the AP region, including the expansion intoIndia and the integration of Blue Dart’s domestic business into the DHL Express operations.
