UPS exports mobile apps to Canada and major European markets

UPS has extended its two mobile apps for BlackBerry and Android and a mobile website forsmartphones to customers in Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Canada enabling them to

ship and track packages and to find the nearest UPS location.

The UPS Mobile website, m.ups.com, and the UPS Mobile Apps for Android, BlackBerry and iPhoneenable users to track shipments, create shipments using the My UPS address book and calculateshipping rates and time-in-transit. No log-in is required for tracking on m.ups.com and the UPSMobile Apps. But when customers are logged in, tracking history displays and is automaticallyrefreshed. UPS tracking numbers also can be nicknamed for quick reference.

Customers can use their smartphones to access their My UPS Address Book and Preferences andcreate shipping labels for document and non-document shipments worldwide. Shipping labels can bee-mailed in a PDF file for printout. As an added feature of the UPS Mobile Apps, customers can usetheir device’s GPS capabilities to find the nearest UPS location.

The UPS Mobile website is optimised for use with any phone with web-browsing capabilities. WhileUPS has been offering mobile tracking since 2008, this new enhanced website also allows the user tosend shipments and find a UPS location.

The updated UPS Mobile App for Android and Blackberry and the m.ups.com website are nowavailable in the U.S., Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy and Canada and in January 2011 inFrance.

UPS said it was first-to-market in the industry with apps for the BlackBerry launched inDecember 2009 and for the Android in April 2010. “In less than one year, the apps surpassed the 1million download mark in the U.S,” the company added.
