Hermes goes online with European outdoor trader Globetrotter

Hermes Germany has teamed up with Globetrotter, Europe’s largest outdoor goods trader, to handledeliveries of its shipments across Germany and Austria with immediate effect.

With this contract offering online customers more shipping options, Globetrotter is extendingits cooperation with Hermes subsidiary Primemail that started in 2001 with mail order delivery.From now on, Globetrotter customers can choose either home delivery or to get their order shippedto one of the over 14,000 Hermes parcel shops nationwide.

In addition to its six branches in Germany, the Hamburg-based equipment specialist isincreasingly focusing on online shipping and has adapted its logistics processes along with itscontinuous expansion in the internet.

As one of the first multi-service providers in the world, Hermes offers services along theentire logistics value chain making it available to its customers as a complete solution orindividual modules. Martin Borelius, Director Key Account Management at Hermes, commented: “We areespecially thrilled when we manage to convince customers in one segment to make use of ourexpertise in other segments as well, as is now the case with Globetrotter.”

Globetrotter started out in the 1990s as one of the pioneers in e-commerce. The companycurrently generates around 44% of its total sales from mail order business, 80% of which iseffected online. Launched in 1996, the successful online shop now comprises over 25,000 articlesfrom 700 manufacturers adapting continuously to its customers’ needs.

Michael Buchholz, shipping manager at Globetrotter, said: “Our experience has shown that inparticular online customers who order their articles round the clock from home expect the sameflexibility when it comes to delivery as well.” Services for end customers such as four deliveryattempts and the dense parcel shop network were the decisive reasons for Globetrotter to chooseHermes as its delivery provider. This ensures safe transportation and individual delivery any timeof goods ranging from hiking boots to skis and camping equipment, Hermes said.
