Postal industry supplier Crisplant has been awarded a contract by TNT Post Parcel Serviceto design and integrate the industry’s most energy-efficient sorters in four sorting centres in the
Netherlands. The contract for the supply, design and project integration of LS-4000 sorters in the sortingcentres was awarded following the installation of an LS-4000E sorter at the company’s sorting anddistribution centre in Utrecht.
Gerrit Mastenbroek, head of TNT Post Parcel Service, said: “The success of our existing LS-4000Eis the basis on which we have decided to extend the use of this sorter to our sorting centres. Thefact that the LS-4000E sorter uses 75% less energy than comparable sorters means that we can reduceboth our environmental impact and our operating costs.”
Crisplant’s Director, Logistic Systems, Henrik Mortensen, explained: “In addition to the needfor extreme energy efficiency, ultra-low operating costs and high capacity, the specification forthe TNT sorting centres also includes efficient use of space. The modular design of the LS-4000E,and specially-designed chutes to accommodate the wide range sizes, allows it to be installed withina very small footprint enabling more floor-space to be made available for the unloading and loadingof sorted items.”
The new sorters are designed to achieve high capacity and long-term operational reliabilitycombined with an ultra-low environmental impact and cost of ownership. The design also allows forfuture expansion of system capacity.
Earlier this year, Crisplant gained a contract to install a LS-4000 ‘green’ automated sortersystem at Korea Express’ new parcel distribution centre in Daejon, Korea. This comprises twoLS-4000E tilt-tray sorters with twenty induction lines and a LS-4000CB cross-belt sorter with seveninductions. The tilt-tray sorters will handle large items at a total sorting capacity of over32,000 parcels per hour, whilst the LS-4000CB cross-belt sorter provides a capacity of more than15,000 items per hour for high-friction and fragile items.
