Mail deliveries in Finland are returning to normal more quickly than expected after a newcollective agreement ended a strike.
Postal operator Itella said most deliveries returned to normal at the beginning of this week andfull service is expected to be resumed by Friday. The backlog of mail accumulated in recent weekswill be cleared by the end of the week.
A mediated settlement was reached last Sunday for the collective labour agreement for thecommunication and logistics sector and this ended the industrial action which had disrupted maildeliveries in recent weeks.
The settlement also ensures that Christmas mail will be delivered as usual, which is importantfor many customers. Christmas mail, both cards and parcels, will be delivered according to theusual schedule in Finland and abroad, the company said.
The Conciliator General’s proposal for a settlement was approved on Sunday, eliminating thethreat of a strike in the postal sector. The strike days declared by the Finnish Post and LogisticsUnion (PAU) were cancelled.
