Deutsche Post announced today that it will reduce prices for a number of its internationalpostal products from 1 January 2011 with customers benefiting from the price reductions.
At the same time, the price structure for international postal products has been simplified tobecome more customer-friendly with the number of prices for international postcards and lettersweighing up to 1,000g to be reduced from ten to four.
The prices of domestic letters and postcards within Germany will remain unchanged in the year tocome, Deutsche Post stressed.
A relevant price proposal filed by Deutsche Post has been approved by the German Network Agencywhich is responsible for regulating letter prices.
In the future, international letter prices will no longer be distinguished according to thedestination categories ‘Europe’ and ‘World’ with only one price for a particular letter type. Themost important postal products will thus only be available at a domestic and an internationalrate.
The current price fixing system that is prescribed by law will hence lead to an average pricereduction of 0.8% for a specified basket of domestic and international products in 2011.
After a price reduction in 2003, the postage rate for domestic standard letter will remain at€0.55 for the ninth consecutive year despite offering a continuously high level of quality. Theprices of other domestic letter products such as postcards, compact letters, large letters andMaxibrief items will also remain unchanged.
