Hermes UK expands network with two new depots

Hermes, Europe’s largest B2C delivery company, has expanded its operations in the UK with theopening of two depots in Dunstable, 50 km north of London, and Perth, central Scotland.

The new facilities replace existing sites within the Hermes UK network of 18 depots, enablingthe company to better service customer needs in London and Scotland, Hermes UK said.

The Dunstable depot has been relocated to a new, larger unit at Woodside Industrial Estate. Thefacility will provide more than 4,000 sqm of warehousing space – a capacity increase of almost 40%compared to the previous site.

In addition, the current depot in Dundee has been transferred to a warehouse development atNorth Muirton Industrial Estate in Perth. The company said the new 1,400 sqm facility wouldincrease its warehousing capacity by more than 35% and was better located for effecting timelydeliveries into the Highlands and the far north of Scotland than the former site.

Carole Woodhead, CEO of Hermes UK, commented: “These latest investments are part of an ongoingreview of our depot network to ensure that the UK infrastructure possesses the appropriate capacityand capability to support our growth strategy. We are committed to enhancing our delivery offeringover the next 12 months to improve the service we provide to our customers, so it essential that weare best-placed to handle these changes to our business.”

Hermes added that the new depots will retain all existing staff to protect jobs and ensure thenecessary expertise is kept within the company.

Originally launched in Germany, the Hamburg-based Hermes entered the British market last yearvia the re-branding of Parcelnet under the group name, in an important move towards establishing apan-European brand.
