British courier firm CitySprint has acquired the courier business of Road Runners, a regionaloperator based in Swindon, west of London.
The owners, Mike and Audrey McCartney, bought the business in 2000 and have since established itas a very successful courier company, servicing many businesses in the Wiltshire andGloucestershire areas, City Sprint stated.
During this time, Road Runners was voted the ‘Best Regional Courier Company of the year’ for 10years running, by the National Couriers Association. Mike, who held senior management positions ina multi-national company for many years before, and Audrey who has over twenty years experience inthe finance industry, have doubled the turnover of the company in the last seven years.
The McCartneys, however, decided to sell their company in order to effectively support customersoutside of their local area by gaining a more extensive geographic presence. This could be achievedby working with CitySprint thanks to its nationwide presence with 31 ServiceCentres strategicallyplaced throughout the UK.
Existing Road Runners’ customers will benefit from improved collection and delivery times aswell as national rates, made possible via CitySprint’s unique network. CitySprint operates thelargest GPS enabled SameDay fleet in Europe, which allows its customers to benefit from real-timeinformation at the touch of a button. Via the CitySprint website , customers can not only obtainquotes and book jobs, but they can also track the dedicated courier assigned to their job from thepoint of collection through to delivery.
The Road Runner’s courier business will be consolidated with CitySprint’s existing Swindonbusiness. Both Mike and Audrey McCartney will continue to support the courier operation to ensure asuccessful transition for each of their existing clients. In addition, the Control Team will moveacross and more than 40 couriers will be offered the opportunity to work alongside CitySprint.
