GLS Italy has opened a new depot at Civitanova Marche on the Adriatic coast to increaseoperating capacity for the region.

The new facility, which was inaugurated on October 3, also gives the company a strategiclocation for connections in the industrial area to the west of the city, which lies south of Anconaon the coastal motorway to Pescara.

The new depot, which employs 40 people, replaces a smaller previous site in Civitanova Marche. The new warehouse covers an area of 2,000 sqm and there is 200 sqm of office space. The use ofPDAs, a video surveillance system and an alarm system ensure high levels of security.

“The new depot at Civitanova Marche is a prerequisite for further growth for our company,”commented Klaus Schädle, managing director of GLS Italy. “Although the Italian express deliverymarket declined last year, GLS Italy managed to increase its volumes and its market share. We havenever stopped offering high quality services, while continuing to invest in IT and expansion offacilities during the crisis.”

Digital signatures of recipients and online tracking have now become the standard at GLS Italy, according to the company. The percentage of lost goods has been stable for the last five years atless than one shipment in 10,000.

“GLS Italy combines the capacity to invest, a powerful IT infrastructure and its Europeannetwork with the flexibility of its Italian network. These are factors that allow us to be closerto customers throughout the country. The new depot at Civitanova Marche has further strengthenedour network,” Schädle concluded.
