CEP managerial appointments in September

Leading companies in the international express and parcels industries including FedEx, Purolatorand Con-way Freight made executive and senior managerial appointments during September.

FedEx Express has named Lisa Lisson as president for Canada. She succeeds David Binks, who wasappointed senior vice president of FedEx European Operations, based in Brussels.

In her previous job as vice president of Marketing, Customer Experience and Communications,Lisson led the innovation and implementation of services to address customer needs andopportunities. At the global level, she is also involved with strategic growth initiatives forFedEx Express. During her 18 years of experience at FedEx, the native Canadian has used her rolesin marketing, communications and customer experience to drive important innovations in productofferings, service delivery and organisational structure.

“She has already been deeply involved in aligning FedEx Express Canada with the increasinglyinternational growth aspirations of Canadian business, which she has done by listening tocustomers, by innovating and by providing great leadership,” commented Michael Ducker, chiefoperating officer and president, International, FedEx Express.

“When I look across Canada, I see enormous opportunities for Canadian companies to diversify andexpand into new markets around the globe,” Lisson said. “I have tremendous confidence in the futureeconomic growth of Canada, and at FedEx we are committed to helping Canadian businesses tap intothese opportunities both domestically and abroad.”

In the Asia-Pacific region, FedEx Express has appointed Alison Dack as the Chief InformationOfficer (CIO) and Vice-President for IT. She will succeed Linda Brigance, who will take on the vicepresident of IT role for global clearance at FedEx subsidiary, FedEx Trade Networks. “Technologyhas and will continue to play a critical role to FedEx business and remains a strategic competitiveadvantage for the company,” Dack said. “We will continue to develop IT-enabled, value-added servicefeatures to ensure every FedEx experience is unique and outstanding.”

The former senior vice president of FedEx Solutions, Tom Schmitt (45), will become president andCEO of Toronto-based Purolator Courier which is Canada’s largest courier company with about 13,000employees. Originally from Biberach, Germany, he was chairman of the Greater Memphis Chamber andpreviously oversaw 550 employees providing comprehensive sales and operational support across FedExCorp.’s business segments.

“The board is delighted to have selected Tom Schmitt as Purolator’s next president and CEO,”said Stewart Bacon, chairman of Purolator’s board. “He is an exceptional leader, and his customerfocus and passion for performance excellence make him the ideal candidate to lead Purolator.”

At Con-way Freight, its president John G. Labrie stepped down from his position to pursue otherinterests. Douglas W. Stotlar, president and CEO of parent company Con-way Inc., has assumed therole of interim President of Con-way Freight, the company’s less-than-truckload business unit, foran expected period of the next six to 12 months. During this period, the company wants to focusexclusively on increasing profitability through yield improvement, cost reduction and operatingdiscipline.

“Con-way Freight has built a 27-year reputation as a premium carrier in all respects,” Stotlarsaid. “The management changes announced today are intended to ensure that we retain this position,and that we deliver to our shareholders, customers and employees the trust, consistentmarket-leading performance and sustainable value that have been the foundation of our success fornearly three decades.”
