TNT flies rally cars to Japan for major sports event

TNT has successfully transported 11 rally cars from Liege, Belgium, to Japan for the Rally Japanthat took place in Sapporo from 9-12 September.

The cars were flown to Shin Chitose airport on the northern island of Hokkaido and delivered ontime to compete in the rally, which is part of the FIA World Championship. It was the sixth editionof the event after a two-year break.

TNT said this was the first time a TNT Boeing 747-400 ERF touched ground in Japan. The aircraftwas especially chartered from TNT for the delivery of the cars. During the rally season, theexpensive rally cars followed a strict schedule heavily relying on on-time deliveries and safehandling.

The 2010 Rally Japan was the 10th round of the 2010 World Rally Championship (WRC) season. Itfeatured eight super specials which are the competitive sections of the rally event taking place inthe Sapporo Dome stadium.

At the Sapporo Dome, spectators were able to enjoy a merchandising area apart from the rallycompetition including presentations of new eco-friendly vehicles.

Sapporo is Japan’s fifth-largest city with a population of 1.9 million people. It hosted thewinter Olympic Games in 1972 and the G8 Summit was held near the city in 2008.
