TNT Post

TNT Post expects to have to dismiss up to 4,500 staff in the next 2-3 years as part of itslong-term cost savings programme.

The Dutch mail operator aims to reduce its full-time workforce by 11,000 people by the end of2012 or early 2013. “6,500 mailmen are expected to leave the company through natural attrition andMobility,” a spokeswoman told CEP-Research. “We help them through TNT Mobility with finding otherjobs.” TNT Post thus expects to make at most 4,500 people redundant, she confirmed.

Dutch media had earlier cited the company’s HR chief, Gerhard Aben, as saying that TNT Postexpected to dismiss this number of people as part of its reorganisation. Dutch postal unions hadclaimed that up to 8,000 people could be made redundant by the cost saving measures. New talksbetween the two sides will be held on Monday.

Since mid-2006, more than 4,800 people have already voluntarily left the postal business throughthe TNT Mobility programme, the spokeswoman pointed out. The company currently has about 40,000employees.

TNT Post aims to save about €430 million between 2010 and 2017 through the restructuring. Themost dramatic changes will be the replacement of full-time delivery staff by part-time workers, andfewer weekly deliveries.

“Currently we have over 13,000 part-time mail delivers and this number will increase to a levelof 35,000 in 2013,” the spokeswoman stated.

The restructuring is taking place against the background of the full separation of TNT Post andTNT Express. The group has said that it will consider various options for the future of the mailand express businesses, including flotation on the stock exchange.
