DHL Russia helps delivering humanitarian aid to fire victims

DHL Russia has delivered relief supplies to victims of wildfires in the most affected regions ofthe country as part of its global CSR initiative GoHelp providing support and assistance after

natural disasters.

DHL said its employees and management were concerned by the catastrophic situation in the majorparts of Central Russia. The company has so far helped to deliver over 40 tons of clothing, food,household appliances etc.

In the first half of August the first DHL trucks with humanitarian aid collected by the citizensof St. Petersburg were sent to the cities of Ryazan, Nizhny Novgorod and Voronezh which are locatedto the south and east of Moscow. On August 19, respiratory devices were delivered from Samarato Saransk, south of Moscow, while further deliveries of humanitarian aid are planned to thecity of Vladimir, east of the capital.

At the same time, the company’s staff started a voluntary initiative to collect warm clothes,toys, school stationery for children, and other goods. The DHL branch in Jekaterinburg collected 15large boxes with humanitarian aid in just three days. These were transferred to the regional officeof the Russian Red Cross in Sverdlovsk.

In its offices in Moscow, DHL has started a fund-raising campaign to purchase equipment forfire-fighting and protective equipment for volunteers who are helping to extinguish fires inMeschersky and Oka nature reserves. Training for volunteers is conducted by Greenpeace, the globalenvironmental organisation.

“No one should remain indifferent towards the misfortunes of others, especially when hundreds ofpeople are affected. From a business perspective, it is not just a matter of corporate socialresponsibility. This is a matter of humanity, attention to the problems of society and the countryas well as the personal attitude of each employee to what happens around him. DHL cannot and willnot stand on the sidelines when our assistance is vital,” declared Adrian Marley, Managing Directorof DHL Express in the CIS countries and South-Eastern Europe.

“In case of a natural disaster, efficient logistics is an important factor to provideassistance. I am glad, that we could contribute with our logistics know-how to supplying people inthe affected regions with important goods,” commented Rainer Wend, Executive Vice President PublicPolicy and Responsibility.
