UPS Canada labour agreement with Teamsters ratified

UPS announced that it has reached a tentative agreement with the Teamsters trade union in Canadaon a new labour contract.

Canada Council of the Teamsters union has ratified a five-year agreement with UPS Canadacovering approximately 5,500 employees who are represented by Teamsters throughout Canada.

The new contract provides wage increases, significant enhancements to the pension plan as wellas an increase in benefits, UPS said in a statement.

UPS Teamsters in Canada voted with a majority of 83.5% of the voting members in favour of thenew agreement. It has come into effect on 1 August and will be valid until July 31, 2015.

“This agreement is good for our people, our customers and our company,” Mike Tierney, presidentof UPS Canada, commented. “Its ratification shows the strong commitment on both sides to servingour customers. Now that the negotiation process is complete, we can continue to focus on doing whatwe do best: providing our customers with the excellent service they have come to expect fromUPS.”

“This is a terrific vote for a contract that will improve wages and pensions,” said RobertBouvier, President of Teamsters Canada.
