Parcel services at Japan Post have returned to normal, following a turbulent few weeks for theJapanese
operator. Its mail delivery arm fell behind on deliveries of more than 300,000 parcels last week afterabsorbing the parcel services of a joint venture it had operated with Nippon Express.
Japan Post decided late last month to dissolve its JPExpress parcel delivery joint venture withNippon Express, which had racked up losses of nearly 100 billion yen since its inception in2008.
But differences in the firms’ parcel sorting specifications led to procedural errors, delayingdeliveries of around 340,000 parcels by half a day to two days, according to local news serviceNikkei.
Japan Post said yesterday that delivery delays in its ‘Yu-Pack’ package service have beenresolved and its operations were back to normal.
The delays had been mostly unwound by 7 July, but Japan Post waited to see if operations wouldremain smooth, according to the firm.
Japan Post said that the delays were “due in part to insufficient preparation” for the 1 Julytakeover of the ‘Pelican’ delivery service run by the joint venture with Nippon Express.
