Deutsche Post-SAP alliance to deliver new communication options

SAP

Software company SAP is developing a number of applications for Deutsche Post’s new E-Postbriefonline mail product, launched yesterday by the German postal operator.

SAP’s Head of Industry Solutions, Kerstin Geiger, said the launch of the E-Postbrief was animportant step towards making end-to-end business processes available to companies and authorities,“by providing a legally binding electronic correspondence”.

Although the first application SAP is working on for E-Postbrief is electronic payslip delivery,it is also looking at a number of solutions in the area of public administration, intended tosimplify the end-to-end electronic communication of administrative departments with citizens andcompanies.

For this, application scenarios such as proof of identity when accessing the portals ofmunicipal administrative departments are to be developed and the legally binding sending andreceiving of official information, such as notifications of charges and business registrations, isto be made possible.

In addition, payment functionalities, as well as the secure payment of charges using an internetmail service, can be supported, the two companies said, following the launch of the E-Postbrief andthe announcement of the new partnership between DP and SAP.

“It should therefore be easier and more cost efficient to process requests since the costs ofthe manual processing of letter mail for both citizens and administrative departments will largelybe eliminated,” Deutsche Post said.

“The exchange between Deutsche Post and SAP and the close collaboration with joint customerssuch as local authorities as part of initial pilot projects should ensure that further applicationscenarios are determined in a practical manner and can be incorporated in the developmentphase.

“Accompanying feasibility studies should help to determine further integration scenarios for theE-Postbrief, based on economic and technological requirements.”
