GLS Austria has recorded an increase in parcel volumes in recent months after the economicallydifficult year of 2009.
The company’s express business and international shipping, in particular, have showndisproportionally high growth rates over the last few months, GLS stressed.
GLS attributes this positive result to its consistent focus on quality. “In difficult times, customers pay close attention to what they get for their money. This is good for those whoseperformance stands out in a positive way compared to competitors,” said Klaus Schaedle, ManagingDirector Europe South GLS.
“GLS Austria has held course – we had to adjust our capacity to fluctuating demand. However, this was never at the expense of quality, since we have invested in IT and security at the sametime,” Schaedle added. Other locations were thus equipped with new video surveillance technologyincluding infrared cameras and digital recording. Additional conveyor technique and an enlargedturning area have further strengthened the GLS central hub in Ansfelden, Upper Austria.
The performance of GLS Austria improved measurably in the last fiscal year. “We work with astrict internal control system and examine on a daily basis different indicators of the packagedelivery, including transit times and service handling. We have slightly improved ourselves inalmost all parameters.”
The express business of GLS in Austria has been constantly growing since its launch two yearsago. The basis for success is the high reliability: the company delivered 100% of all expressparcels within the booked time frame last year. This enabled GLS to win, among others, importantkey accounts as new customers and keep the volumes of existing customers stable.
The continuous investment has also paid off for the international parcel delivery. Theclosely-meshed road-based European network provides short delivery times. GLS Austria often servesas a gateway to Central and Eastern Europe. “We have won several new clients who can optimise theirlogistics thanks to the efficiency of our delivery routes: they now combine multiple sites in acentral warehouse from where they supply numerous countries,” Schaedle added. “Our customers saveon operating costs without sacrificing quality. We see this as a confirmation of our strategy –high-quality performance is recognised even in times of crisis. “
