GLS Belgium improves services with faster deliveries and operations

GLS van

GLS has significantly improved its delivery quality in Belgium through speeding up parcelhandling and operating in a more efficient way as a result of the company’s previous restructuring

in the country.

“The merger of the two parcel networks GLS Belgium and GLS Belgium Distribution was completednearly six months ago – now we can see the changes,” said Eberhard Fritze, Managing Director GLSEurope West. “The delivery quality measured by parcels that are delivered within Belgium in lessthan 24 hours has further improved and stabilised at around 98%. The damage rate that had alreadybeen low initially further decreased at the same time compared to the previous year.”

When combining the two networks, the IT structures have also been standardised. “We haveimplemented new modules of our system IT UniQue on the former sites of GLS Belgium Distribution,”Fritze stressed. “This now allows us from now on to offer identical parcel products and servicesthroughout Belgium and Luxemburg and in addition to expand our offering.”

The reorganisation of delivery routes has also boosted efficiency, the company said. There areno more duplications during the tours. Despite shorter routes speeding up delivery times, thenumber of vehicles deployed could also be reduced. “These optimisations, among others, allow us toincrease prices only slightly this year,” Fritze explained.

GLS added that international companies welcome the simplified treatment of cross-bordershipments with the statistics being available more quickly in the system such as the qualityreport, for example.
