Deutsche Post is transferring 277 of its postal outlets to its former unit Deutsche Postbank AGfrom 1 July onwards thus continuing its successful model of “partner branches” or “postal agencies”
integrated into retail outlets.Under the deal, Postbank will offer postal services around letters and parcels. In addition tothe full range of Deutsche Post, customers will also profit even after the takeover from the widerange of Postbank services.
For postal customers, nothing will change with the locations, contact persons and the provencombination of postal and banking services remaining the same, Deutsche Post stressed.
“This new collaboration provides advantages for all parties. Our customers can continue carryingout their postal affairs together with the banking transactions in a comfortable way profiting fromthe known proximity and easy accessibility,” said Deutsche Post’s head of mail Jürgen Gerdes. “Theycan use their usual branch without a location change and the same service offering. Both companiescan thus offer their customer service in an economically stable way by using the synergies of ourpartner model.”
With this solution, Deutsche Post continues focusing on customers while it benefits from theexperienced cooperation partner for the distribution of postal services. In 2006, Postbank hadalready taken over completely about 850 biggest postal outlets completely and has been operatingthem since then as ‘Postbank Finance Centre’ all over Germany.
Hans-Peter Schmid who is responsible for the postal outlets within the Postbank Management Boardis pleased about the conclusion of the contract with Deutsche Post: “With more than 1,100 branches,we have one of the largest branch networks of any bank in Germany. While other banks are closingtheir branches, we are now even closer to our customers. The location of their particular branch isensured in the long run, with the local contacts and the range of financial services remaining thesame.”
In addition, the cooperation with the Postbank offers postal employees a planning reliability asthey remain employed at Deutsche Post and continue with their existing jobs at the branch. “Thissolution that we have developed in collaboration with our social partners guarantees both ourcustomers and the participating companies and our employees a maximum on continuity and quality,”Gerdes summed up.
Since 2003, Deutsche Post has more and more expanded its partner branch network.
