Canada Post has selected Intermec to equip more than 8,000 of its foot-based postmen with CN50mobile computers in order to provide timely delivery to customers while helping eliminate manual
paper processes.In 2009, Canada Post delivered 11 billion letters to 15 million residential and businessaddresses. With the new deployment, the postal operator aims to meet the delivery operationsrequirements for all traceable items.
The CN50 is part of Canada Post’s personal data terminal (PDT) solution that is being used toavoid paper-based delivery scan recording processes. It is in line with the company’stransformation programme to modernise its postal network.
Through its EA21 scanner and powerful 3G radio technologies, the CN50 will communicate with theCanada Post Central Delivery Information Application to provide streamlined data capture anddelivery processes.
In order to ensure real-time upload of scanned data, it will be necessary to eventually equipall letter carriers with a PDT capable of transmitting information through a high-speed reliablecellular network, Intermec said in a statement.
